In August, Kenzie and I will be using many online platforms to offer support, host writing chats, and run word wars & sprints. We will shamelessly be using each of you to keep us on track with our writing & daily word counts, so we WANT you to shamelessly use us for the same end.
The platforms we’ll be using are:
Twitter — for basic checking up, posting of word counts, and updates on all thing Camp NaNo. So find us, follow us, and let us know you’re from Camp!
Kenzie: @kenzieaudacious
Bailey: @baileykelsey
Tumblr — for lengthier posts, including weekly encouragement, word count padding tips & tricks, and s’mores! Be sure to follow this feed to make sure you have all the support you can get! You are not alone in August.
AIM Chat iCampforNaNo — which will be moderated most hours of the day by either Kenzie or I; we will run word wars and sprints most of the time we’re in the chat, but chats are also used to help fellow writers out of plot holes and corners.
You can enter the chat by sending yourself an invite to the italicized chat name above, or you can find Bailey (me) on AIM at CeruleanNotion to request entry. Be sure to tell me that you’re from Camp or I’m likely to ignore you.
Google + Hangout Campfire — in August, I will be running at least TWO Google + Hangouts (scheduled, of course) that will last a duration of 3 hours and will be a more “in person” like writing group meet up. It’s simple to work: we’ll chat for 15 minutes then do marathon writing for 45 minutes. You’re held to writing because we can see you via webcam that you’re actually sitting at your computer & we can hear you via audio feed that you’re actually typing. (If you don’t have Google +, please use the “ask” feature to request an invite, including a g-mail address.)
If you have any suggestions for other online platforms we might could use to increase productivity & offer support (and s’mores!), please let one of us know via Twitter or Tumblr. We will look into them.
I hope July is wrapping up well for all of you, and that those of you participating in July’s Camp experience are pounding out those daily word counts.
So in August, the real cabin fun starts, but for July the OLL has approved a thread in each GENRE forum to act as a cabin for Camp NaNoWriMo.
Of course, because Camp doesn’t have it’s own forums, the forum threads regarding Camp are integrated into the NaNoWriMo forums. But they aren’t hard to find at all; just look for the [Camp NaNoWriMo] tag at the beginning of a thread’s title. Or, the whole category in the forums dedicated to Camp NaNoWriMo.
I hope everyone is having a blast and writing words. Don’t feel bad if you’re behind because I just passed a whooping 500 words. :)
See you around the campfire. Sometime this month we’ll have a s’mores night chat.
Nanowrimo just launched their fabulous new website, here. It’s gorgeous and new and you should go sign up!
Remember, while July will be the trial month, August will be the month that iCAMP takes place.
Who has story ideas for CampNaNo?
Who has characters? a single character? a hair color?
Who has a setting? a time period? an important weather-based moment?
Who has any ideas AT ALL about CampNaNo this August?

This is the time to begin brainstorming… or maybe the time to brainstorm your brainstorming. Sometimes all you need is a name, a brief moment, or a campfire.
I just think this is neat! I would totally love to novel a bit in these shopfront windows.
One of the many charms of our office here at 3354 Adeline is its storefront windows on either side of the blue front door. If eyes are windows to the soul, then maybe OLL’s windows are the eyes to our soul!
Many people stop and stare as they amble by, making comments like, “What a creepy doll!” Or, “Cool! I wonder what they do here!” Or, “Hey there are people in there!” (All of which leads me to believe that our “soul” is surprising, a little confusing, but very eye-catching.)
In November we decorated our windows in NaNoWriMo finery and invited local writers to come novel in these cozy nooks. (That got a lot of comments from passersby!)
I have ATTEMPTED NaNoWriMo since my freshman year of high school (AKA 2009) and the furthest I’ve made it is 15,000 words. The stories are The Dark Room (it had fallen angels and guardian angels and photography and Camilla is still my favorite character EVER) and Bare Feet & October Daisies (which I started writing because of a little piece of flash fiction I wrote for my boyfriend at the time). Both of them got shelved but I saved EVERYTHING for both of them, because I definitely want to go back to them at some point.
